Day 48: The ancient Rome

Refreshed after an early dive into the pool, I eagerly started the remaining 65 km towards Rome, arguably one of the most important places in the history of mankind.

Even before Rome, there was the fascinating place of Sutri with its small, ancient amphitheatre.

After noon I reached Rome. I wasted no time and went right into the center, with the Trevi fountain one of the early destinations.

But the most fascinating area was around the Forum Romanum and the Colosseum where it just felt like being in a different time.

Later I went on towards the Pantheon.

In the late afternoon I started going away from the center.

My host was living just outside the center, so I was ready to see the Vatican early next morning.

Rome is more or less the halfway point of the trip. For those who don't know yet, there is an overview of the blog entries available, which you can find HERE.

It is also at the bottom of each page of the PC version or in the upper part of the mobile version.
