Day 67: Roussillon and Gordes

I had already entered the area of the red coloured ground and seen the beauty of the nature. Now it was about Roussillion, the town which is built right into it, on top of a mountain where the red sand shines through everywhere.

It is a very small town which has a completely red tone.

Down and up the next hill there is Gordes, which is completely different in colour and architecture.

It is fascinating to see such a difference between two towns that are so close.

A little outside downhill there is the abbey of Sénanque, which deliveres a picturesque scenery when the lavender is blooming.

On the other side another unique destination is located, the village of Bories.
The very small village is built with the technique of stones without mortar.
As far as I understood, it is a mystery why the habitants used this technique, because it is not older than 500 years.

Here I met a nice German family and we talked about my bike and the trip.

Towards Avignon it became less unique, but still nice as I crossed L'Isle-Sur-La-Sorgue.

Nearby I seized the opportunity to visit the "Grottes de Thouzon".

After all the things I saw today, the best moment came when I ran into a group of little pigs which had escaped from a farm. When they saw me come around the corner they ran right back to their home territory.

I rolled into Avignon where I would stay in a very small hotel right in the center.
