Day 66: Geology, flora, agriculture

The day was supposed to be just a transfer to Roussillon, but it was interesting in many ways as I learned a lot about the region.

Early on I cycled back through Les Mées towards Forcalquier.

This donkey was very interested in my bike.

In Forcalquier I entered a bisquit factory. It was very interesting and I talked to the lady in French and English before we realized that we were both German. She recommended to visit the small town of Vachères in the mountains.

I continued out of Forcalquier through nice little villages.

After yet another climb I reached Vachères which was very much worth the effort.

Just out of town there was an anise field which I could smell even before I passed it.

Also I found a lavender field in purple! Although not fully blooming.

This section was beautiful and diverse with various trees and great views.

The typical red colour in the ground was visible all along, and just before Roussillion I visited these rocks which are a popular destination in this area.

I stayed on a campsite just next to Roussillon, ready to see it in the morning.
