Day 3: The Geierlay suspension bridge

My most important destination for today was only a few kilometers away. The day before I had made it into the Mosel mountains near the Geierlay suspension bridge to have it all on my own in the morning.

Without breakfast I took off and reached the bridge in the morning sunshine.

From now on I was focused on breakfast which was not available in Mörsdorf. I headed through the high plains of the Hunsrück region towards the Rhine, hoping to find something on the way.

In the next little village a lady of a hotel offered a breakfast buffet which was perfect.

When I was sitting on a bench while writing the blog one hour later, I suddenly saw this scenery when I looked up.

I jumped on my bike and found shelter in this tunnel just before the rain came pouring down.

It only lasted a few minutes. The forecast was no more rain for the next few days and it cleared up quickly.

After a huge climb the day before I was now going down to the Rhine and only stopped in some nice villages while racing down.

I reached the river and followed it up to Bingen am Rhein.

Behind Bingen the bike trail got very bumpy which made it impossible to go fast with the heavy bike.

15 km before Mainz I stopped at a campsite to watch the Argentina - Croatia game.

There was an opportunity to charge my stuff and I soon went to sleep right after the game.
