Day 109-111: Towards Gibraltar

Again I was assuming an easy ride through the flat looking South of Sevilla to Jerez. Again it was another painful experience. It started nicely with empty roads and shade.

Also I saw my first ever cotton fields. There were a lot of them along the lonely road.

In a small village I loved the scenery and had an extended breakfast.

But soon after it got miserable. It went up and down with gusty winds right in my face for the rest of the day.

Completely exhausted I had pizza in Jerez late in the evening where I had an interesting conversation with the owner Enrico. He very much recommended to visit Cadiz and also not go to Algeciras for the Morocco transfer.
After lots of consideration I stuck with my original plan and directly cycled to Algeciras the next day. It was even worse than Enrico had told me. The town was very ugly. It was even worse than Colmar!

However, in my small hotel I had great WiFi, so I decided to see the near Gibraltar the next morning and return to the hotel for the sports Sunday evening.

Unfortunately my bicycle is really messed up. There is a very strange sound and feel when I go uphill and have increased pressure on the pedals. So I did not go on top of the Gibraltar rock to see the monkeys. Still it was an interesting experience, seeing the city built into the rock as well as crossing the airport (It was not easy to take a proper picture, just google it).

I returned to watch Liverpool - ManCity and the NFL games and was at the harbour early next morning to take the next great step: Reaching Africa.
