Luca had to go to work in the morning and I left the house at the same time. Right away I had to climb up the Appennine mountains to reach Florence and Tuscany.
Luca had told me about the Via Degli Dei, the ancient route through the mountains. Indeed it was impressive and beautiful, but it was also very tough.
Whenever I passed a little market in one of the small villages, I stopped to get cold ice tea.
From the top it went easily downhill, so I already rolled into Florence in the early afternoon.
The view onto the city with the cathedral from the Piazzale Michelangelo is very famous and did not disappoint.
I roamed around the center for some time.
At the end of the day I stayed in a very good hostel in the middle of the city.
