Day 29: Friendly welcome in Croatia

Approaching the Croatian border, it continued with the small villages and long streets.

After I saw a fox yesterday, today nature presented nicely painted snails.

I was very happy to reach a real city, Kaposvàr, where I could change my Fontis to Kuna. It's all very confusing.

Initially in Hungary when I had to pay I searched through all my money, took a look at every bill and coin and tried to find something to pay with.
Now I just throw all my money on the table and let the people just quickly pick the right ones. It saves a lot of time and nerves for everyone. There is no sense in trying to get used to it because I'm quickly out of the country anyway.

It didn't take long to get back to nature. This was a section with some hills, forests and small lakes where people from Budapest come to enjoy nature.

I was excited to see Hungarian steppe cattle. They have long horns and I only know them from our small zoo in Mönchengladbach.

There was a lot more forest as I came closer to the Croatian border.

In the final village I cooked my Mexican chili.

After entering Croatia, not much changed as the villages looked very similar.

But soon I was in Virovitica, the first big town where I got my first real ice cream in a week.

Shortly behind the town I found a nice little place to stay.

Mladen, the friendly and personable owner of the Villa Magnolia made me feel home.

We chatted for some time. He knows a lot about the interesting history of this region.
