Day 52: The Leaning Tower of Pisa

Cycling along the coast towards Livorno was not easy because I mostly had to use the main road. However, this helped me progressing quickly and I knew I would easily reach Pisa in the afternoon. Sometimes I went away from the road to have some calm views of the coast.

Livorno was already interesting, but I wanted to have more time for Pisa. So I just had a quick lookaround in Livorno and reached Pisa shortly after.

Within five minutes I was already in the area where the cathedral and the tower is located.

Standing in front of the tower and seeing it personally, it is really amazing how much it is leaning.

The tower itself with its completely white colouring and the many arches and poles is very beautiful.

With one turn you are in the streets of Pisa, which has many different and picturesque views in the center as well.

For the night I had the opportunity to stay in the empty flat of a girl 35 km in the North. So I left Pisa and cycled hard to arrive before darkness.

From the completely flat region of Livorno and Pisa I very quickly entered the Apennine mountains just 5 km away from the coast.

Camaiore was a surprisingly nice, small town within the beautiful setting of the surrounding mountains.

After a quick shower I walked the romantic streets and had dinner where I learned a lot about the region from the waiter.
