After the flamingos I continued through the Emilia-Romagna region towards Bologna. Again it was very hot, there were no forests and I was always looking for cold drinks and ice cream.
I cycled through the countryside on lonely paths and enjoyed a lot of interesting things along the way.
This is one of the nice little places that offered cold drinks and a chair.
In the town of Fusignano I found great ice cream. Not as great as in Trieste, but still good, and anything cold was good.
The region was flat and full of different fruits. A nice farmer family gave me some tomatoes and I took the time to see all the interesting things on the fields.
It was already late when I reached Imola where I wanted to see the track where a lot of historic moments of Formula 1 happened.
Although it was more than twenty years ago and I was a kid, I can still pretty much recall the day Ayrton Senna died.
Standing at his monument near the place of his fatal crash, I could still sense the immense charisma he had as I looked at the face of his statue. Proof of this are the many fresh condolences here after such a long time. He was relentless in the car, but a very shy and sensitive person off the track.
Imola itself is a nice town, so I took a small room there to close out the day.
